BitMapped Graphics

A BitMapped graphic is one in which each pixel is mapped to a specific color. They may use palettes or other lookup tables to describe the pixel characteristics. The picture is displayed as a rectangular grid, or raster, so BitMapped images that don't use any compression may be very large files.
BitMapped (raster) files contain graphics information described as pixels. The image is made of individual pixels (dots). When the image is enlarged the pixels get larger too and the result appears very jagged.
