Universal Resource Locator

     The global address of documents and other resources on the World Wide Web. It is the name for the Internet address of a particular individual, device, or Web site. For example, the URL for IBM is: http://www.ibm.com. URL is a string that supplies the Internet address of a resource on the World Wide Web, along with the protocol by which the resource is accessed. The most common URL type is "http," which gives the Internet addresses of a World Wide Web pages. Some other URL types are gopher, which gives the Internet address of a Gopher directory, and ftp, which gives the address of an FTP resource.
