What is RAS? Row Address Strobe Column DRAM Memory Function
Row-Address-Strobe

A memory function; an acronym for Row Address Select. A control pin on a DRAM used to latch and activate a row addresses. The row selected on a DRAM is determined by the data present at the addr. pins when RAS becomes active.
In computer memory technology, RAS, Row Address Strobe, is a signal sent to a dynamic random access memory (DRAM) that tells it that an associated addr. is a row address. A data bit in DRAM is stored in a cell located by the intersection of a row addr. and a column address. A CAS (column addr. strobe or select) signal is used to validate the column addr. The signals are generally sent CAS before RAS.
