| In late 1996, in an effort to capitalize on the expanding market for multimedia applications, Intel unveiled an enhanced version of its Pentium microprocessor. These MMX processors contain additional instructions, or commands, and other enhancements specifically designed to handle sound, video, and graphics chores. The problem is that to take advantage of MMX, software must be written specifically for these enhancements, and there is not much yet. |
