| Computer Screen Savers |
|
A program which blanks the monitor or displays pretty or entertaining graphics after a period of inactivity on the console. Originally intended to prevent burn-in of images on older cathode-ray tubes, screensavers are now used primarily for entertainment purposes or to lock an unused terminal, requiring the user to enter a password to return to the normal display. A moving picture or pattern that appears on your display when you have not moved the mouse or pressed a key on the computer for a specified period of time. Screen savers prevent screen damage that is caused when the same areas of light and dark are displayed for long periods of time. Be careful when using one on a computer with an LCD display (most laptops and notebooks). A pixel on an LCD display is on when its dark; therefore, blacking the display as some screen savers do would cause more damage. |
